Utilities for System Administration

Keys

• ssh-copy-id db.thegummibear.com
  • Copies your public key to the remote host so you don’t have to keep using your password
  • Places it in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys.
  • known_hosts -> remembers servers you have connected to, not used for user authentication, just validates that the host you are connecting to was the same one you connected to last time.

Shell enhancements

• byobu -> maintains shell sessions
• cssh -> ssh to multiple machines simultaneously

SSH config

• Located in ~/.ssh/config
